Who is Jesus?

Who is Jesus?

Who is Jesus?

Who is Jesus?

About 2000 years ago, Jesus asked this question:

“What do people say about Me?”

There might well have been a Jewish preacher in Galilee at the time of Augustus and Tiberius.

A Jewish carpenter.

Some Christians today are not even interested in knowing about Him.

Some say Jesus is God manifested in the flesh — the God-Man.

Some people ask, “If Jesus is God, who was in heaven when He died?”

Others ask, “If Jesus is God, why did He say the Father is in heaven?”

“If Jesus is God, why did He say the Father is greater than Him?”

Sometimes Jesus says the Father is in heaven.

Sometimes He says the Father is in Him.

Some say He is fully man and fully God — another point of confusion.

Many people are confused about understanding Him.

Many do not even want to turn back to the Bible and go deeper.

If we ask these questions to some Christian leaders, they will say it is a mystery — and escape.

But REMEMBER: Jesus said nothing is hidden!

Voices From History

Augustine of Hippo (354–430 AD)

  • “If you can comprehend it, it is not God.” (Sermon 52:6)

We cannot simply say the mystery of Jesus is hidden and escape from the question!

John Calvin (1509–1564)

  • “The human mind, so far as it is able, does not deny the fact of the Trinity, but feels baffled by it.”

Martin Luther (1483–1546)

  • “The mystery of the Trinity is the most difficult thing to understand. Indeed, it is impossible for us to understand. Therefore we must take the Word as it is and believe it simply.”

Why We Cannot Stop at “Mystery”

I will give an example why we should not escape something as a mystery unless it is told by God that it is a mystery.

Sir Isaac Newton discovered gravity and even formulated the law of universal gravitation.

But when people asked him what gravity is and how it came into existence, he said it is a mystery — God’s agent — and he stopped further inquiry.

Whenever we make a full stop at “mystery,” the benefit of knowing such a truth remains unreached.

Sir Albert Einstein did not stop.

He imagined — he questioned — he wondered.

He pictured an object falling not straight down, but oscillating through space-time.

He discovered that gravity is the curvature of space-time.

His idea became the theory of everything, changing 20th-century physics and blessing the world.

If Einstein had accepted Newton’s “mystery,” we would have lost many benefits we enjoy today.

Therefore, we cannot simply say the mystery of Jesus is hidden and escape from the question!

Jesus said in John 17:3 that knowing the Father and the One whom He sent breathes the fire of eternal life.

Wow — what a powerful knowledge!

No other knowledge in the world makes such a claim.

The Apostles and Early Thinkers Never Stopped Searching

Apostle Paul said this knowledge goes deeper and deeper.

He called it an “excellent knowledge”:

“Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ.”

(Philippians 3:8)

Knowing Jesus is gaining Jesus.

Knowing Him connects us to eternal life (John 17:3).

Knowing Him brings freedom (John 8:32).

Knowing Jesus Christ and the Father gives abundance of grace and peace (2 Peter 1:2).

Knowing Him brings divine power for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3).

Jonathan Edwards (1703–1758) said:

  • “I think the doctrine of the Trinity to be the highest and deepest of all Divine mysteries.”

John Wesley (1703–1791) said:

  • “Bring me a worm that can comprehend a man, and then I will show you a man that can comprehend the triune God.”

Thomas Aquinas (1225–1274) said:

  • “We can know what God is, in a certain way, from creatures.”

Apostle Paul said in Romans 1:20 that we can know the Creator God through every creature.

Every creature gives a better framework to know the Lord Jesus Christ.

A Cry for Our Generation

Speaker:

So much is there to know about Jesus Christ.

But even after 2000 years, the world is full of random knowledge about Him.

We Christians have utterly failed to tell the world who Jesus is!

The more you delve into the knowledge of Jesus Christ, the deeper it goes!
